DTC Profit Kit

Your dashboard says margin. VAT and four cost layers say otherwise.

A Netherlands store left a public review of a popular profit dashboard in July 2026: “revenue should never be including VAT. I wonder how many people don’t even realize this.” On a €50,000 month, roughly €8,000 of reported revenue is tax-office money. Profit apps rent you a dashboard at $49–749 per month. This kit is the part they skip: per-SKU contribution margin from your own Shopify export, VAT stripped per destination country, four cost layers from your own documents — in a script and spreadsheets you own. One payment of $42 — no subscription.

What's inside the kit

One zip: a calculator script with a built-in self-test, spreadsheet templates with live formulas, sample data in the real Shopify export format, three SOPs, a VAT pack and a monthly review checklist. Plain Python — no installs, no accounts, your data stays on your machine.

Calculator

Margins per SKU, month, country

Reads the standard Shopify orders export, strips VAT per destination country (DE 19% · FR 20% · NL 21%, official sources), applies landed COGS, fulfilment, payment fees and returns, and writes three CSVs. 10,000 orders in about a second. A 22-check self-test proves the math offline.

Cost layers

Landed COGS worksheet + SOP

The supplier price is half the story. The worksheet builds real landed cost — freight, duty, inbound handling, packaging — and the SOP shows where each number comes from and when to re-verify it.

VAT pack

DE · FR · NL, official sources

The one rule (VAT is not revenue), per-country rates linked to the tax authorities, small-business schemes (§19 UStG, franchise, KOR) and a quarterly check for your config. Not a VAT-return engine — margin truth.

Returns

Returns-adjusted margin SOP

A refund costs revenue and unrecovered product cost. The kit books both, per order, and the SOP turns your top refund reasons into page fixes — the cheapest margin work in DTC.

Rhythm

45-minute monthly review

A timed checklist: run, read, do, close — including the two-way check against your spreadsheet and a board-ready one-pager for partners and agencies.

License

One store, every report

Single-store commercial license: run it on your storefront, share the output with anyone who works for that store. Reselling or sharing the files isn't included.

What profit dashboards charge

All figures from the vendors' own official pages, checked 2026-09-20 — prices move, so re-check before you decide. The kit is the method, not another meter.

Product Price Commitment What their reviewers say
Lifetimely from $49/mo* monthly “review and verify every product” — App Store review
Triple Whale $219–749/mo 12-month contract, priced by GMV “leaves VAT in your revenue” — NL store, Jul 2026
BeProfit $49–249/mo monthly “$720 per year … never used” — App Store review, Apr 2026
DTC Profit Kit $42 once none — files you own VAT stripped per line · costs from your documents · the review process is the product

* From the Shopify App Store listing, 2026-09-20 — the vendor's own web slider shows higher tiers. Competitor prices change; the official pages are the source, not this table.

What this kit will not do

No real-time anything. It is a monthly batch on files you own — no app, no connector, no login, no data leaving your machine. If you want a live dashboard with store benchmarks, the $219–749/month tools above exist; this kit is for the number they keep getting wrong.

Garbage in stays garbage in. Skip freight and duty and the margin is wrong — loudly: the script lists every SKU missing a cost instead of letting a fake 70% margin slide. The SOPs exist to make the inputs honest; nobody can do that from the outside.

Not tax advice. VAT rates are quoted with official sources and a check date; filing stays with your accountant or tax software. The kit makes your margin math agree with theirs — it does not replace them.

No profit promises. Correct margins do not raise your profit; decisions do. The monthly checklist forces one decision per month from the numbers — that part is on you.

From zip to your real numbers in 30 minutes

Three steps, then 45 minutes a month. Nothing to install beyond Python, which your Mac already has.

Step 1 — costs

Fill the landed-cost worksheet

Five numbers per SKU from documents you already have: supplier invoice, freight bill, customs entry, packaging. About 20 minutes for a small catalog.

Step 2 — run

One command on your export

Export orders from Shopify admin, run the script, read three CSVs: margin per SKU, per month, per country — VAT stripped, four layers applied, warnings for anything missing.

Step 3 — rhythm

45 minutes on month close

The monthly checklist: reconcile VAT against your return, act on the worst-margin SKU, fix one page from refund reasons. Numbers that lead to decisions.

One price. You own the numbers.

No monthly plan, no order cap, no per-seat fee — the dashboards already charge enough of those.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an app or a SaaS dashboard?

No — and deliberately. Dashboards rent you a meter at $49–749 per month and, per their own reviewers, still report VAT as revenue and leave every product cost for you to verify. This kit is a script and spreadsheets you own: one command on your own export, then a 45-minute monthly review. No connector, no login, no data leaving your machine.

What exactly do I get?

A zip with 16 files: the profit_calc.py calculator (pure Python, with a 22-check self-test), the landed-cost worksheet plus two more spreadsheet templates with live formulas, a 24-order sample in the real Shopify export format, the VAT pack for DE/FR/NL, three SOPs (landed COGS, returns, monthly review) and a board-ready report template. Plain files — readable in any editor.

Which stores does it fit?

Shopify stores selling B2C in EUR markets with VAT-inclusive prices — the sample config ships with DE 19%, FR 20%, NL 21%, AT 20%, IT 22%. Non-VAT stores work too: switch to prices-exclude-tax mode and clear the rates, and the same four cost layers apply. Other platforms work when they export a similar orders CSV — the parser reads the standard column set.

Where do the VAT rates come from?

Tax authorities, not blogs: § 12 UStG for Germany, economie.gouv.fr for France, Belastingdienst for the Netherlands — each linked in the pack with a check date (2026-09-20). The monthly checklist reminds you to re-verify quarterly. The kit strips VAT for margin math; it files nothing.

What is the refund policy?

If the kit doesn't fit how you work, write to us within 14 days of purchase and we refund in full — the files are yours to keep or delete. One refund per purchase; we only ask for optional feedback.

Do I get updates?

Yes — every v1.x update (Shopify export format changes, new spreadsheet templates, rate-table refreshes) is free. Re-download any time from your download page with your email and password.

Stop reading a number that was never yours.
